Gael Monfils and Alexander Bublik will go toe-to-toe in the Second Round of the 2022 Australian Open on Wednesday.
Monfils made a strong start to 2022, as he managed four consecutive wins in Adelaide before winning the title. There were some concerns about Gael’s general fitness ahead of the Australian Open, especially after his withdrawal from Adelaide 2.
However, Monfils looked very sharp in the opening round of the 2022 Australian Open, beating Federico Coria in straight sets while dropping just five games. The Frenchman’s best recent result at the Australian Open was in 2019 when he managed to reach the round of 16.
On the flip side, Bublik has only played two matches in this early stage of 2022, having lost one and won one in the process. After losing in straight sets against Vukic in Adelaide 2, Bublik bounced back with a 3-1 win over Escobedo in the first round here in Melbourne.
Bublik has never progressed beyond the 2nd round at the Australian Open, although he managed some decent performances towards the end of 2021. It seems that Bublik can’t perform very well in Grand Slams, having won just two of his last 7 matches at this stage of slams.
We expect this match to go over 3.5 sets at odds of 5/6 with Bet365. Gael dropped a set against Escobedo in the opening round, and Bublik is a much better player than Escobedo on hard courts.
