Rafael Nadal will take on Daniil Medvedev in a mouth-watering climax to the 2022 Australian Open in Melbourne on Sunday.
A rematch of the 2019 US Open final, in which Nadal managed to win after four hours and 54 minutes, sees the Spaniard look to complete an historic triumph.
Nadal is just one win away from his second Australian Open title and from a record 21st Grand Slam title to overtake rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic at the top of the all-time list.
The Spaniard has won all his ten of his matches in 2022, including a title in Melbourne in the build-up for the Australian Open.
Nadal had his toughest test against Denis Shapovalov this fortnight when he edged a five-set thriller, having claimed the first two sets.
Rafa’s conversion rate at the Australian Open is pretty poor, having won just one of his five title-deciding matches, but he will be determined to secure what would be a landmark moment in the sport’s history.
Medvedev, meanwhile is currently on a nine-match winning streak on the hard surface, including a 3-1 victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Semi-Finals.
The Russian star will seek to win his Grand Slam title on Sunday and has carried the weight of the tournament-favorite tag from the outset in the absence of reigning champion Djokovic.
Medvedev defeated Nadal in their most recent meeting with the Spaniard at the ATP Finals 2020, although he lost the only meeting in a Grand Slam final.
