Former Australian Open champion Rafael Nadal comes up against Denis Shapovalov in the Quarter-Finals in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Nadal is currently on an eight-match winning streak on hard courts, having dropped just one set in the process. The 2009 champion has definitely shown signs of improving with each passing match, although he survived an early test before beating Adrian Mannarino in straight sets in the previous round.
This will be Nadal’s 14th Quarter-Final appearance at the Australian Open and his 45th in all Grand Slams as he continues to chase down a record 21st major title.
Shapovalov extended his winning streak to seven matches with an incredible 3-0 victory over Alexander Zverev. This was his shortest match at the 2022 Australian Open and the first one he managed to win in straight sets.
This is Shapovalov’s first Quarter-Final appearance at the Australian Open and his third at a Grand Slam in total. The last Canadian player to reach the Quarter-Finals of the Australian Open was Milos Raonic back in 2020.
Shapovalov definitely has a good chance here as he has won all the previous three meetings with Nadal on hard courts.
