Liam Broady looks to claim another notable scalp when he faces Tallon Griekspoor in the Citi Open second round on Wednesday.

It was just under four weeks ago that Broady sent shockwaves around the tennis world by causing arguably the shock the championships at Wimbledon.

There, he recovered from two sets to one down before dominant the decider to dump out fourth seed Casper Ruud in the second round.

That gave the likeable Briton the biggest win of his career and though he subsequently succumbed to former semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov in the following round, he certainly has plenty of momentum to build on.

Broady came through the opening round in straight sets, beating Corentin Moutet 7-6(0), 6-4 and will fancy his chances of securing a main-draw debut at the US Open in a few weeks’ time.

But first, his focus will be on toppling 12th seed Griekspoor, who received a bye through the first round.

The Dutchman is one of eight multiple winners on the ATP this season – along with the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev – having triumphed in Pune and s’Hertogenbosch.

But the world number 37 descends on Washington fresh from a first-round exit at Wimbledon, where he was defeated by Marton Fucsovics in straight sets.

The winner of this match will play either Gael Monfils or sixth seed Alexander Bublik in the last 16 of the 2023 Citi Open.

Play gets underway at around 8.30pm BST on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Court 4.
