Frances Tiafoe v Aslan Karatsev live stream | Citi Open 2023 Preview

Frances Tiafoe begins his quest to land a third title of the season when he faces Aslan Karatsev in the Citi Open first round on Tuesday.

One of only eight players to win multiple titles on the ATP Tour this season – along with the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev – Tiafoe triumphed in Houston and Stuttgart earlier in the campaign.

The American also reached the semi-finals at Indian Wells, though he will have been disappointed not to progress further at Wimbledon having suffered a commanding straight-sets defeat against Grigor Dimitrov in round three.

Nevertheless, the world number 10 will be eager to bounce back and delight his home crowd this week.

He starts by facing a player he met in the French Open second round two months ago, recovering from losing the opening set to prevail in four.

Though ranked 65 places lower on the ATP Tour, Karatsev will not be phased having already claimed some notable scalps this season.

Indeed, he defeated the likes of Medvedev and Alex de Minaur on his way to reaching the Madrid Masters semi-finals, where he eventually succumbed to Jan-Lennard Struff despite winning the opening set.

Also a semi-finalist in Pune at the start of the year, Karatsev came through the opening round in straight sets as he defeated Kiranpal Pannu 7-6(3), 6-1.

The winner of this match will play either 14th seed Ben Shelton or Juncheng Shang in the last 16 of the 2023 Citi Open.

Play gets underway at around 12am BST on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Stadium Court.
