Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic go head to head in a blockbuster French Open semi-final showdown at Roland Garros on Friday.
Court Philippe-Chatrier will play host to the match of the tournament so far, with two of the title favourites locking horns for the right to play either Casper Ruud or Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s final.
It is only the second ever meeting between the two players, who have both dropped just a single set en route to the semi-finals, with Alcaraz prevailing at this stage of last year’s Madrid Masters.
Both are protecting impressive winning streaks at grand slam events. Reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion Djokovic has won his last 19 matches since defeat by Rafael Nadal in the 2022 French Open quarter-finals, with US Open winner Alcaraz prevailing in his last 12 such matches.
Although, there is an obvious divide in terms of their experience at this stage of the French Open.
The youngest semi-finalist in Paris since Djokovic in 2007, 20-year-old Alcaraz is in uncharted territory at Roland Garros while this is his opponent’s 12th appearance in the last four, from which he has prevailed on six of the previous 11 occasions.
Djokovic is now just one behind Roger Federer (46) for major semi-final berths as he targets a record-breaking 23rd such title, which would also make him the first man to win each slam at least three times.
But Alcaraz will have other ideas. For the Spaniard, victory here would not only keep him on course for a second grand slam, but would ensure he remains world number one when the next edition of the ATP rankings are published on Monday.
The match gets underway from 1.45pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
