Carlos Alcaraz v Denis Shapovalov live stream | French Open 2023 preview

Carlos Alcaraz resumes his bid for a maiden French Open title when he faces Denis Shapovalov in the third round on Friday.

The world number one has continued his strong start to the season at Roland Garros, where he has now reached this stage in each of his three appearances.

Alcaraz has dropped just a single set across his two matches so far, and is now 32-3 in 2023 having already triumphed on clay in Madrid, Barcelona and Buenos Aires.

The youngest top seed at the clay-court major since Bjorn Borg in 1976, the 20-year-old began with a 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 win over Italian debutant Flavio Cobolli and, despite getting pegged back from a set up, he eventually pulled away from Japan’s Taro Daniel to prevail 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The Spaniard is a heavy favourite to go all the way at this event, but will not take anything for granted against 26th seed Shapovalov.

The Canadian has marched into uncharted territory, hitting a combined 88 winners across his victories over Brandon Nakashima and Matteo Arnaldi to reach round three for the first time.

Another win here would also see Shapovalov match his best performance of a generally modest season, having also reached the last 16 at the Adelaide International in January.

And he has fond memories of playing in Paris, reaching the only ATP Masters 1000 final of his career in the French capital back in 2019.

The winner of this match will play 17th seed Lorenzo Musetti in round four at the 2023 French Open.

Play gets underway at 7.15pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland Garros.
