Carlos Alcaraz steps up his quest for a maiden French Open title with a Quarter-Final show-down against Stefanos Tsitsipas at Roland Garros on Tuesday.
Top seed Alcaraz is appearing in the Quarter-Finals at Roland Garros for the second successive year, having dropped just one set along the way.
The 20-year-old has fully justified his billing as the bookmakers’ favourite coming into the tournament and is now aiming to reach the Semi-Finals for the first time.
Alcaraz eased past qualifier Flavio Cobolli in the opening round before overcoming Japan’s Taro Daniel in four sets. He then demolished Denis Shapovalov 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, before going on to defeat 17th seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
The reigning US Open champion, who is also vying to retain the world number one ranking, is 34-3 this season and 24-2 on clay.
However, he faces a formidable test in the shape of fifth seed Tsitsipas – a player who he boasts an unbeaten record against in their four previous meetings.
Tsitsipas finds himself through to the Quarter-Finals of the French Open for the third time, with his best run coming in 2021 when he finished runner-up.
The 24-year-old, who was also a beaten finalist at the Australian Open earlier this year, dispatched Jiri Vesely in four sets in the opening round and has since won all his matches in straight sets.
He safely overcame Roberto Carballés Baena and Diego Schwartzman before blitzing Austrian qualifier Sebastian Ofner in just one hour and 50 minutes.
The match gets underway from 7.15pm BST on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Court Phillipe Chatrier.
Either two-time champion Novak Djokovic or 11th seed Karen Khachanov will await the winner in a mouth-watering Semi-Final.
