If Rafael Nadal is the King of Clay, then Carlos Alcaraz is heir to the throne.

The 19-year-old won’t be claiming his crown quite yet though after he was dumped out of the French Open by Alexander Zverev at the quarter final stage.

His dramatic rise had propelled Alcaraz right into the frame for outright glory at Roland Garros, but the teenager had it all to do after being cast into the difficult side of the draw.

The Spaniard has had to overcome Albert Romas-Vinolas and Karen Khachanov before being drawn against Zverev, and although he had shown he can beat the big names on the grandest of stages already, it proved a bridge too far for his this time around.

It seems to be a matter of time before Alcaraz gets his hands on a Grand Slam title but his focus will now have to switch to Wimbledon later this month.
