The youth of the ATP Tour are out in force here as the world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, takes on Italian clay-court specialist Lorenzo Musetti for a place in the quarter-finals.
It is Musetti who hasn’t yet dropped a set in this year’s Roland-Garros, including a dismantling of the British #14 seed Cameron Norrie in the previous round.
Alcaraz is still the bookmaker’s favourite for the tournament overall. However, this is the first of a difficult set of hurdles for the current US Open Champion to jump over.
Musetti won the last match between the pair in the Hamburg final on clay last July. Indeed, both matches that these two have contested have gone to three sets and Alcaraz has never won an easy set against Musetti. It really is an intriguing battle ahead for both men.
It would go down as a shock if Alcaraz went out here, however, the history of the head-to-head and the form coming into the match means that there could be plenty of tension ahead for the super Spaniard.
Play gets underway at around 1.30pm BST on Sunday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Court Phillipe Chatrier at Roland Garros.
