Novak Djokovic looks to seal his 17th appearance in round four of the French Open when he faces Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Friday.

The 22-time grand slam singles champion has made a solid start in his quest to surpass Rafael Nadal and become the most successful men’s player in major history outright.

Indeed, despite facing two tie-breaks, he is yet to drop a set and overcame Aleksandar Kovacevic and Marton Fucsovics relatively comfortably.

A two-time winner in 2016 and 2021, Djokovic has only failed to progress beyond the third round at Roland Garros on two occasions, one of those being his debut appearance 18 years ago.

Nevertheless, the reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon champion will not be taking Davidovich Fokina lightly by any means.

After all, the Spaniard prevailed in their most recent meeting (also on clay) on his way to reaching last year’s Monte Carlo Masters final – the only championship match of his career to date.

The 29th seed also has fond memories at Roland Garros, where he reached the quarter-finals two years ago before eventually succumbing to Alexander Zverev.

Not only that, but two of the Indian Wells Masters quarter-finalist’s three other last-eight appearances this season have also come on surface in Barcelona and Estoril

Like Djokovic, the 23-year-old has also made a strong start in Paris, dropping just a single set in defeating the French duo of Arthur Fils and Luca Van Assche.

The winner of this match will play either 13th seed Hubert Hurkacz or Juan Pablo Varillias in round four of the 2023 French Open.

The match gets underway at around 2.15pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland Garros.
