Two-time French Open champion Novak Djokovic faces 11th seed Karen Khachanov in the Quarter-Finals at Roland Garros on Tuesday.
22-time grand slam singles champion Djokovic has made solid progress in his quest to surpass Rafael Nadal and become the most successful men’s player in major history outright.
Despite facing four tie-breaks, he is yet to drop a set en route to the Last Eight, safely overcoming Aleksandar Kovacevic, Marton Fucsovics, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Juan Pablo Varillas.
French Open winner in 2016 and 2021, Djokovic is appearing in his 17th Quarter-Final at Roland Garros since making his debut back in 2005, and is vying to reach a 12th Semi-Final.
The reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon champion is 24-4 this season and 9-3 on clay and has won eight of his nine previous meetings with Khachanov.
Khachanov’s sole head-to-head success came at the 2018 ATP Masters in Paris and he will be hopeful of stopping the rot in the same city.
The 27-year-old is appearing the Last Eight here for the second time, having lost out to Dominic Thiem at this stage in 2019.
The Russian is now eyeing a place in a third consecutive Grand Slam Semi-Final following his runs at the US Open and Australian Open.
Khachanov was almost dumped out in the opening round last week but recovered from two sets down to defeat France’s Constant Lestienne.
He then swept aside Radu Albot in straight sets before seeing off Thanasi Kokkinakis in four and coming from a set down to defeat Lorenzo Sonego in four sets.
The match gets underway from around 1.30pm BST on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Court Phillipe Chatrier.
Either top seed Carlos Alcaraz or fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will await the winner in a mouth-watering Semi-Final.
