Novak Djokovic v Yoshihito Nishioka live stream | French Open 2022 preview

Novak Djokovic begins the defence of his French Open title with a First Round tie against Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka on Monday.

Djokovic ended Rafael Nadal’s dominance at Roland Garros with a four-set win over the Spaniard in last year’s Semi-Finals, before battling back from two sets down in the final against Stefanos Tsitsipas to clinch his second French Open crown.

The world number one surpassed his record of 37 ATP Masters 1000 titles to 38 courtesy of his Italian Open triumph a week ago, again defeating Tsitsipas in the final.

Having been ruled out of four tournaments this season, including the Australian Open, for medical reasons, Djokovic warmed up for his first Grand Slam of the campaign in dream fashion by sealing his first silverware of the campaign.

Prior to that, he had suffered defeat to teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz in the Semi-Finals of the Madrid Open and was denied by Andrey Rublev in the final of the Serbia Open on home soil.

Djokovic, who made his first French Open appearance back in 2005, has never suffered a First Round exit at Roland Garros and has made at least the Semi-Finals in each of his last three visits.

The 35-year-old opens up with a tie against world number 94 Nishioka – who has surpassed the First Round in each of his last three French Open appearances.

The 26-year-old notably reached the Third Round of the 2020 Australian Open and was a quarter-finalist at the Cincinnati Masters in 2019, but is now gearing up for arguably the biggest match of his career to date.

Either Slovakia’s Alex Molčan or Argentina’s Federico Coria will await the winner in the Second Round later in the week.
