Elena Rybakina hasn’t yet dropped a set in her quest to add a French Open title to her current Wimbledon crown.

The Kazakh athlete will face her toughest test of Roland-Garros so far though when she takes on clay-court specialist, Sara Sorribes Tormo.

The Spaniard has only fairly recently come back from injury and isn’t yet at full speed, but she shouldn’t be underestimated here. Whilst Sorribes Tormo is currently ranked #132, she was as high as #32 a year ago and has a 64% win record on clay in her career.

Rybakina’s win percentage is only a couple of percent above that at 66.7% but the Wimbledon champion is having a really strong 2023 and is clearly full of confidence.

Sorribes Tormo won their only previous meeting. This was on hard courts in Miami in 2021 and was a tight three-setter. Rybakina was ranked at #23 at that time and has moved forwards a lot as a player in the intervening two years.

This should be a tough test of Rybakina and her title pretentions. She should be expected to progress but in two or three tight sets

Play gets underway at around 10:45am BST on Saturday and will be contested over the best of three sets at Roland Garros.
