Daniil Medvedev locks horns with Stefanos Tsitsipas while there are four first-time French Open quarter-finalists in action on a mouth-watering Day Ten at Roland Garros.
We are approaching the business end of this season’s second slam as the last eight gets underway in the French capital on Tuesday.
The pick of the ties sees the second and fifth seeds face off as Medvedev and Tsitsipas go neck and neck.
Both players have dropped just a single set in their four matches so far, although Medvedev will be the favourite to prevail.
The Russian, who had failed to progress beyond round one at Roland Garros prior to this year, has won six of his seven previous meetings with the Greek ace, including a straight-sets victory in their Australian Open semi-final showdown four months ago.
Sixth seed Alexander Zverev is appearing in his third French Open quarter-final, and will target a maiden last-four berth against first-timer Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who is the only unseeded player remaining in the men’s draw.
Meanwhile, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is the only one of the four Ladies in action boasting previous French Open quarter-final experience.
The Russian, who reached the last eight in 2011, has certainly earned the right to return to this stage 10 years on; beating third seed Aryna Sabalenka and former world number one Viktoria Azarenka along the way.
She faces Elena Rybakina, who is yet to drop a set in this year’s tournament and beat Serena Williams in the previous round.
Tamara Zidansek and Paula Badosa are also looking to continue their good form, having only dropped two sets each.
World number 85 Zidansek, who is the lowest-ranked player left in the competition, is the first Slovenian woman to reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam event.
Meanwhile, 33rd seed Badosa demonstrated her credentials by overcoming 2019 finalist Marketa Vondrousova in round four.
