Iga Swiatek looks to keep her quest for a third French Open title on track when she faces China’s Xinyu Wang in round three at Roland Garros.

The reigning champion has made a strong start to her title defence in Paris, where she has now won 20 of her last 21 matches.

Swiatek extended her impressive record at Roland Garros with a pair of 6-4, 6-0 victories over Cristina Bucsa and Claire Liu, enduring closely fought opening sets in both matches before her quality eventually shone through.

The Pole, who turned 22 on Wednesday, is now looking to maintain her record of having reached at least round four in all five appearances at the season’s clay-court major.

More importantly, she is just five wins away from becoming the sixth woman in the Open Era to successfully defend the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen, following in the footsteps of the likes of Steffi Graf, Chris Evert and Monica Seles.

Looking to deny Swiatek a 43rd win in 47 matches on clay is Wang, who is gearing up for her maiden appearance in round three at a grand slam.

Despite reaching the semi-finals in Hua Hin earlier this season, the world number 80 arrived in the French capital having suffered first-round exits in each of her four previous events.

However, the 21-year-old has stopped the rot and, like her opponent, is yet to drop a set this fortnight after defeating 31st seed Marie Bouzkova 6-4, 7-6(5) and Rebecca Peterson 7-6(5), 6-2.

The winner of this match will play either Bianca Andreescu or Lesia Tsurenko in round four at the 2023 French Open.

Play gets underway at around 3pm BST on Saturday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland Garros.
