Katie Swan, current British #5, is looking to qualify for the French Open but has a tough opening match against Denmark’s Clara Tauson.

Swan has played five clay court tournaments in the build up to the French Open but has won only one match in those attempts, against the world number 827.

Clara Tauson has been lauded as a very talented junior player, but injuries have hit her at an inopportune time and she hasn’t quite managed to get to the level that she is capable of. Tauson is the player that beat Emma Raducanu the week before the US Open qualifying began in 2021, when Raducanu went on to win the title.

In all likelihood, Tauson should be winning this match. Clay is far from the Dane’s best surface, but she does have a winning record on it. Swan has won only 42% of her lifetime matches on the surface and is not comfortable enough on it to make inroads into Tauson here.
