Last year’s runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas and Zdenek Kolar will square off in the Second Round of the 2022 French Open on Thursday.
Tsitsipas survived a huge scare in his opening match against Lorenzo Musetti. The Greek had an early 4-1 lead in the opening set, but he eventually lost the set as well as the second set.
However, he produced a spirited fightback to win the match in five sets and to advance to the second round here in Paris.
Tsitsipas had a slow start to the season by his standards, but he recovered pretty well recently and delivered a couple of solid performances on clay courts. Stefanos has reached the Quarter-Finals in Barcelona where he lost to Alcaraz, then the Semi-Finals in Madrid where he was beaten by Alexander Zverev and he recently finished runner-up to his nemesis Novak Djokovic in Rome.
Kolar has already played four matches at the French Open 2022, as he had to fight through qualifiers in order to reach the main stage. The Czech has dropped only one set in three qualifying games though and put in an impressive display in the opening round.
Kolar made the most of Pouille’s inconsistency to record his maiden main draw victory at the French Open as well as in Grand Slams.
