World number two Daniil Medvedev will take on Laslo Djere in the Second Round of the 2022 French Open on Thursday.
Medvedev has not started the season in the way he would have hoped. He lost to Rafael Nadal in five sets at the Australian Open and then lost once again at the hands of the Spaniard in the Semi-Finals in Acapulco.
Despite the fact he took over as world number one earlier this year, the Russian put together a couple of disappointing results in Indian Wells and Miami and he is now back to the second position in the rankings.
Here at the French Open 2022, Medvedev had an easy match against an out-of-form Facundo Bagnis in the opening round, beating the Argentine in straight sets while losing just six games.
Djere has been playing solid tennis on clay courts over the past two months, having won 10 of his last 14 matches on this surface. His best performance during this run was a semi-final appearance in Marrakech where he lost to Alex Molcan in straight sets.
Djere began his French Open 2022 campaign in a strong manner, as he dispatched Ričardas Berankis in straight sets in just two hours and five minutes.
Djere holds a pretty good record in the Second Round matches in the French Open, having won his previous two matches at this stage.
