Clay maestro Rafael Nadal will take on Corentin Moutet in the Second Round of the 2022 French Open on Wednesday.
Nadal has not been at his brilliant best of late, having been eliminated in the third round in Madrid and the second round in Rome. In Madrid, he was stopped by the in-form Carlos Alcaraz, but his loss against Denis Shapovalov in Rome is something to worry about.
Nadal is a 13-time champion at Roland Garros, and he has only ever lost three matches in this tournament – two of those defeats coming against Djokovic. Last year at the French Open, Nadal has lost in four sets in the Semi-Finals against rival Novak Djokovic.
Moutet has enjoyed a decent run of form lately, having won seven of his last ten matches on clay and hard surfaces. The French wildcard kicked off his 2022 French Open campaign with a solid 3-1 victory over Stan Wawrinka after losing 6-2 in the opening set.
Moutet is a talented youngster, but his main problem is inconsistency and his results in Grand Slam matches are also worrying. Corentin has played seven second-round matches in Slams and he has won just two in the process.
