Casper Ruud v Alexander Zverev live stream | French Open Semi-Final preview

Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev lock horns for a place in this year’s French Open final at Roland Garros on Friday.

The second semi-final – and the first meeting between the players on clay – promises to be another fascinating contest, with the winner set to face either Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic in Sunday’s showpiece.

Ruud – runner-up to Rafael Nadal 12 months ago – is looking to make his second successive final, while Zverev is appearing in the last four for the third year running.

The Norwegian is the first Scandinavian player to reach back-to-back semi-finals at Roland Garros since Robin Soderling in 2009 and 2010, the Swede also went on to reach the final in both years.

And the fourth seed is targeting his third final in five grand slam tournaments, having only reached round four once in his first 13 events.

Ruud will also be encouraged by the fact Zverev has never been victorious over a top-five opponent at a major, failing in each of his eight previous attempts.

Equalling Boris Becker’s German record of three French Open semi-final appearances – while this is his sixth at a slam – the former US Open runner-up is now looking to become the first Roland Garros finalist from his nation since Michael Stich 27 years ago.

Now just two wins away from being the third German man to win a major title in the Open Era, world number 27 Zverev would be the lowest-ranked finalist in the clay-court major since Mariano Puerta (37th) was beaten by Nadal in the 2005 showpiece.

The match gets underway from around 5.30pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland Garros.
