Elena Rybakina will be looking for her 5th consecutive straight-sets win when she takes on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the quarterfinals of the 2021 French Open.
No one expected Elena Rybakina to perform that well at the French Open 2021 after her results on clay prior to the start of the tournament. She had to withdraw in Charleston due to an injury and then was knocked out in the second round of the Madrid Open. However, she did had an amazing season in 2020 when she reached five of her seven career finals. Elena Rybakina had an amazing run in Paris so far, which culminated with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Serena Williams in the Round of 16.
On the flip side, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has won eight of her last nine matches on the clay surface. The Russian had a substantial run in Madrid last month where she lost in the Semifinals against Aryna Sabalenka. Pavlyuchenkova had to fight back from one set down to defeat Victoria Azarenka in the previous round. The bad news is that Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova holds an awful record in the Grand Slam quarterfinals, having lost each of her six appearances at this stage of a competition.
