Alexander Zverev has seen his French Open campaign end in misery after being dumped out at the semi-final stage.
The world No3, who has two ATP Finals crowns and an Olympic gold, is yet to win one of tennis’s four majors and his hunt for that elusive title continues after his defeat to clay specialist, Rafael Nadal.
Zverev was forced to retire near the end of the second set, following a lengthy injury treatment. The match looked very tight until that point with the first set decided on a tie breaker and the second headed in the same direction.
Victory for Nadal sets up a final against Casper Rudd, where the Spaniard will be hoping to win his 14th French Open title, breaking his own record in the process.
