Alexander Zverev and Kei Nishikori will square off for the 3rd time on clay in less than three months in the Round of 16 in Paris on Sunday.
Zverev has won ten of his last eleven matches on clay. The German has won the Madrid Open and also reached the Quarter-Finals in Rome during this run. Zverev has survived a scar in the opening round of the 2021 French Open as she fought back from two sets down to defeat Oscar Otte in five sets. He followed this up with a 3-0 win over Safiullin in the second round, although he needed two tiebreakers to seal the win. His most recent match was against Laso Djere where the German produced his best performance of the campaign, winning comfortably (6-2,7-5,6-2).
Meanwhile, Nishikori has been struggling with fitness problems over the past years, but he looked pretty decent at this edition of the French Open. He had two tough matches in the opening two rounds and needed five sets in each of his wins against Giannessi and Kchachanov. He had a 1-0 lead against Henri Laaksonen in the third round, but the Swiss player retired due to an injury. Nishikori is a three-time French Open quarter-finalist and will be looking for his 4th appearance at this stage of the competition.
