Daniel Altmaier and Sam Querrey will go toe-to-toe in the opening round of 2021 Indian Wells, with both players looking to get back to winning ways.
Daniel Altmaier hasn’t played a single match on hard courts since March when he retired in the opening round of the Miami Open. Altmaier has lost each of his last six matches on hard, while winning just two sets in the process.
Altmaier has played 15 matches on clay surface recently and won 11 of them. During this run, the German managed to win the Luedenscheid challenger and to reach the semifinals of the Como challenger.
Meanwhile, Sam Querrey heads into this clash on the back of a six-match losing streak on hard courts. Actually, he hasn’t won a single match on this surface since a 2-1 victory over Laaksonen in February.
Querrey has competed in Indian Wells on 14 occasions in his career and he exited the tournaments just twice without winning a single match.
