Coco Gauff v Aryna Sabalenka live stream | WTA Indian Wells 2023 preview

Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka contest their first Indian Wells Masters quarter-final when they face off on Wednesday.

Indeed, the players respectively seeded sixth and second have advanced into uncharted territory in this event, and are just three wins away from glory.

Sabalenka continues to ride the crest of a wave after what has been a wonderful 2023, with the reigning Australian Open champion also triumphing in Adelaide.

The world number two overcame Evgeniya Rodina 6-2, 6-0, before receiving a walkover due to Lesia Tsurenko’s withdrawal in round three. She then avenged her defeat by Barbora Krejcikova in Dubai last time out, battling past the former French Open champion 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

Sabalenka has now reached at least the quarter-finals at every WTA 1000 event except for Guadalajara, which was only inaugurated last season.

Although, she has lost three of her four previous meetings with Gauff, including both on hard courts – most recently, a narrow 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4) defeat in Toronto last year.

Playing her first match as a 19-year-old, the American is looking to join Sabalenka as a multiple WTA title winner this season, having triumphed in Auckland two months ago.

Gauff was also a semi-finalist in Dubai, and has dropped just a single set on the way to the quarter-finals in Indian Wells.

The 2022 French Open finalist saw off Cristina Bucsa 6-2, 6-4 and Linda Noskova 6-4, 6-3, but received a much sterner test against Swedish qualifier Rebecca Peterson, who she eventually scraped past 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

A showdown with either 2022 runner-up Maria Sakkari or two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova awaits the winner of this match in the Indian Wells Masters semi-finals.

Play gets underway at around 8pm GMT on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of three sets in California.
