Anett Kontaveit and Ons Jabeur will square off in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Indian Wells Masters on Thursday.
Kontaveit has demolished lucky loser, Beatriz Haddad Maia, in the round of 16, winning the match in just 65 minutes with a score of 6-0, 6-2. She has defeated all three opponents at the 2021 Indian Wells without losing a single set. She won against Martina Trevisan due to a late retirement and then stunned reigning champion Bianca Andreescu 7-6, 7-3.
Kontaveit has enjoyed an excellent year so far, having posted four semi-final appearances while lifting two titles in Cleveland and Ostrava.
Meanwhile, Jabeur has struggled in the second round against Sevastova, but then registered straight-set victories over Collins and Kalinskaya. Prior to this edition of the Indian Wells, Jabeur’s only victory here was in 2015 when she lost in the second round.
Jabeur has been in great shape this year, having won four quarter-final matches out of six. She has recently reached the Chicago 500 final and she is now looking for a first semi-final appearance in a Masters 1000 event.
