Marta Kostyuk will be seeking a second consecutive win at the 2021 Indian Wells when she takes on Simona Halep on Friday.
Kostyuk did well to put an end to her three-match losing streak on hard courts, thanks to a 2-1 victory over Zhang in the first round of the Indian Wells. Kostyuk was recently knocked out in the opening rounds of the US Open and Chicago 2.
Kostyuk’s most notable performance on hard courts in 2021 was a semifinal run at the Abu Dhabi back in January. However, she looked a bit better on clay where she reached the Fourth Round of the French Open.
Halep has not been at her best lately, having registered five defeats in her last nine matches on clay and hard courts. The Romanian has only reached the 4th round at the US Open recently, where she lost 6-3, 6-3 to Elina Svitolina.
Halep was in the top ten for over 8 years, but she has now dropped to 17th place. Simona’s most recent title on hard courts was in Dubai last year.
