Andy Murray looks to maintain his solid start to the season when he takes on Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the Indian Wells Masters first round.

The three-time Grand Slam winner is gearing up for his 15th appearance at the opening ATP Masters 1000 event of the campaign.

Runner-up to Rafael Nadal in 2009, Murray has reached a further two semi-finals in California.

The former world number one will be hoping for more of the same this year, having reached the final in Doha last time out.

Murray defeated the likes of Alexander Zverev, Lorenzo Sonego and Jiri Lehecka along the way, before narrowly coming up short against Daniil Medvedev.

The resurgent 35-year-old, who also came through epic five-setters against Matteo Berrettini and Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Australian Open, is back up to 55th in the ATP rankings.

Although, that is just six places above his opponent, who is up to a career high 61st following a strong start to the season. Indeed, Etcheverry reached the championship match in Santiago last weekend.

The Argentine dropped just a single set as he saw off Fabio Fognini, Francisco Cerundolo, Dusan Lajovic and Sebastian Baez, before eventually losing out on a maiden ATP title to home favourite Nicolas Jarry.

Etcheverry was also a quarter-finalist in Buenos Aires earlier this term – losing to British number one Cameron Norrie – while he reached the second round of a Grand Slam for the first time at the Australian Open.

The winner will take on 15th seed Pablo Carreno Busta in the Second Round later this week.

The match gets underway from around 11pm GMT on Thursday and will be contested over the best of three sets in Indian Wells, California.
