Kei Nishikori will be looking to continue his good form when he takes on Daniel Evans in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters on Saturday at 7pm (UK Time).
Kei Nishikori has suffered only four defeats in his last 15 matches on hard courts. His best performance during this run was a semifinal appearance in Washington in August where he lost unexpectedly against McDonald.
The Japanese kicked off the Indian Wells with a hard-fought victory over Joao Sousa, in a match where he came back from one set down. The only issue is that Nishikori has competed in four Masters 1000 events so far in 2021, but couldn’t register consecutive victories in any of them. However, he holds a decent 6-1 record in second-round matches here.
Daniel Evans, on the other hand, has won five and lost five of his last ten matches on hard courts. He did well to reach the 4th round at the US Open a month ago, but then lost only in the 2nd round in San Diego.
Evans has had an amazing first half of the year by claiming his maiden tour-level title at the Great Ocean Road Open and beating Novak Djokovic en route to the semifinal in Monte Carlo.
Evans’ previous second-round appearance here in Indian Wells ended with a straight-set defeat against Kei Nishikori back in 2017.
