Rafael Nadal and Daniel Evans will go toe-to-toe in the third round of the 2022 Indian Wells on Monday at 7.30pm (UK Time).
Rafael Nadal’s 17th victory of the season wasn’t an easy one, as he was thoroughly tested by Sebastian Korda. Actually, The Spaniard recovered from 2-5 down in the decider to beat the talented American in a tiebreaker. This came as a surprise especially after Rafa had a flawless tournament in Acapulco where he hasn’t dropped a single set in five matches.
Although Rafa is 35-years-old, this is his best-ever start to a tennis season. The last time he had a strong start to the season was in 2019 when he managed to reach the semifinals here at Indian Wells.
After a first-round bye, Daniel Evans has registered a flawless 6-2, 6-0 victory over Coria in the second round at Indian Wells. Evans had a solid start to the season with three victories in the ATP Cup. Then, he followed this up with a semifinal appearance in Sydney where he lost in three sets against Karatsev.
The Brit has never progressed beyond the 3rd round at Indian Wells in his previous three attempts. It has to be said that all his previous opponents at this stage of this competition were players ranked inside the top 10.
