Reigning champion Taylor Fritz resumes his Indian Wells Masters title defence in a mouth-watering quarter-final against Jannik Sinner.

The players respectively seeded fourth and 11th collide for a semi-final place at the first ATP Masters 1000 of the season.

This is quickly becoming extremely familiar territory for Fritz, with the defending champion eyeing his third successive semi-final appearance at the campaign’s opening ATP Masters 1000 event.

Already a champion at the United Cup and Delray Beach, the American has dropped just a single set as he moves to within a victory of reaching his fifth semi-final of 2023.

He battled past compatriot Ben Shelton 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, before overcoming Sebastian Baez 6-1, 6-2 and Marton Fucsovics 6-4, 6-3.

Fritz prevailed in his only previous meeting with Sinner, which also came in this event, as he won their last-16 encounter 6-4, 6-3.

The Italian, who has already secured his best performance in Indian Wells, will be aiming to exact revenge and remain on course for a second title of the season.

Indeed, Sinner triumphed in Montpellier, while he was runner-up to the red-hot Daniil Medvedev in Rotterdam.

He has built on that momentum by advancing to the last eight without dropping a single set. His run began with a 6-3, 7-6(2) victory over Richard Gasquet, before he beat Adrian Mannarino 7-6(7), 6-4, and put former Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka to the sword 6-1, 6-4.

The winner of this match will play either Carlos Alcaraz or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Indian Wells Masters semi-finals.

Play gets underway at around 10pm GMT on Thursday and will be contested over the best of three sets in California.
