Carlos Alcaraz resumes his quest to complete the “Sunshine Double” when he faces Taylor Fritz in a mouth-watering Miami Open quarter-final.

Initially postponed due to rain on Wednesday, two of the world’s top 10 players lock horns for the right to play Jannik Sinner in the last four at Hard Rock Stadium.

There is plenty at stake for reigning champion Alcaraz, who is aiming to become only the fifth player to successfully defend the title after Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

The 19-year-old, who triumphed at Indian Wells earlier this month, is three wins away from being the youngest player to complete the “Sunshine Double” – and first since Federer six years ago – while he would also retain his position as world number one.

Alcaraz is certainly in the form to achieve those feats. The Spaniard has breezed to the quarter-finals without dropping a set, while defeating Facundo Bagnis, Dusan Lajovic and Tommy Paul.

But Fritz will undoubtedly provide his toughest test so far, the American dropping just a single set to reach the last eight in Miami for the first time.

The Delray Beach champion has improved his impressive seasonal record on home soil to 13-2 after beating the likes of 24th seed Denis Shapovalov and seventh seed Holger Rune this fortnight.

A semi-finalist in Dallas and Acapulco as well as reaching the Indian Wells Masters quarter-finals, Fritz is now aiming to become the first American winner in Miami since Andy Roddick in 2010.

Play gets underway at around 12am BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of three sets at Hard Rock Stadium.
