Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula go head to head for a place in the Miami Open final at Hard Rock Stadium.

Two of the season’s most in-form players lock horns for the right to face one of Sorana Cirstea, Petra Kvitova or Ekaterina Alexandrova in Sunday’s championship match.

Indian Wells Masters champion Rybakina is aiming to become only the fifth woman to win the “Sunshine Double” after Steffi Graf, Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka and Iga Swiatek.

Set for her 11th match in 21 days, the Ukrainian has stretched her winning streak to 13 this fortnight.

Indeed, victories over Anna Kalinskaya, Paula Badosa, Elise Mertens and Martina Trevisan have seen her become the first player to reach her first two WTA 1000 semi-finals in consecutive tournaments since Sofia Kenin achieved the feat at Toronto and Cincinnati four years ago.

However, she has lost both her previous meetings with Pegula, including a 6-3, 6-4 defeat in the third round at Miami Gardens last year.

The third seed is set to appear in her second straight Miami Open semi-final, and she will be hoping to go the extra steps after losing out to Swiatek at this stage 12 months ago.

Runner-up in Doha and a Dubai semi-finalist, Pegula is now 19-5 for the season after seeing off Katherine Sebov, Danielle Collins and 20th seed Magda Linette, although she was forced to save two match points before eventually prevailing 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(2) in her thrilling quarter-final clash with Anastasia Potapova.

Play gets underway at around 1.30am BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of three sets at Hard Rock Stadium.
