Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner go head to head for the right to be crowned the 2023 Miami Open champion on Sunday.

The pair lock horns in a championship match for the second time this season, with Medvedev prevailing 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the Rotterdam showpiece in February.

The former US Open champion subsequently maintained his perfect record against Sinner, who he has beaten in all five of their tour-level encounters.

Medvedev will be confident of continuing that in his first Miami Open final, meaning he has now made it this far in all six hard-court ATP Masters 1000 events as well as both hard-court Grand Slams.

The fourth seed is also the first player to reach five or more ATP level finals before the clay courts season since Roger Federer in 2006, while the Swiss was also the last player to reach both finals in the Sunshine Double during the same year (2019).

Medvedev overcame Roberto Carballes Baena, Quentin Halys and Christopher Eubanks without dropping a set – while he received a third-round bye following Alex Molcan’s withdrawal – before battling past Karen Khachanov in a three-set semi-final.

Sinner also progressed through his first four rounds unscathed, seeing off Laslo Djere, Grigor Dimitrov, Andrey Rublev and Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets.

The 2021 runner-up was then forced to come from behind against Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals, breaking his opponent six times on the way to ending his 10-match winning streak as well as his hopes of completing the Sunshine Double.

Claiming only his second victory over a top-five opponent in 16 attempts, Sinner also became the first Italian to beat the world number one at a hard-court ATP Masters 1000 event – and third overall.

The third multiple Miami finalist before the age of 22 after Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the 21-year-old can climb to a career high of sixth in the ATP rankings by landing his maiden ATP Masters 1000 crown.

Play gets underway at 6pm BST on Sunday and will be contested over the best of three sets at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami.
