Taylor Fritz looks to continue his resurgence in a tricky second round clash against Ugo Humbert at the National Bank Open on Wednesday.

The world number nine has enjoyed a timely return to form following his early exit at Wimbledon – winning seven of his last eight matches – but faces another in-form player that is 8-3 since SW19.

Fritz posted a modest 3-5 record during the grass-court season, which culminated in him bowing out in the second round at the All England Club.

But the American responded by claiming his second ATP title of the season in Atlanta – following on from his triumph at Delray Beach earlier in the campaign.

He then reached his eighth semi-final of the season in Washington, but eventually succumbed to Tallon Griekspoor.

It is three years since Fritz’s only previous meeting with Humbert, which brought a commanding 6-4, 6-1 victory in Acapulco.

The Frenchman has also bounced back well from an early exit at Wimbledon.

A Challenger Tour winner in Cagliari and Bordeaux earlier this year, Humbert reached back-to-back semi-finals in Newport and Atlanta, while he also got to the last eight in Washington.

And the world number 34 enters this contest fresh from a hard-earned win over Nicolas Jarry – champion in Santiago and Geneva this term – having come from behind to defeat the Chilean 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The winner of this match will play either Alex de Minaur or Gabriel Diallo in the last 16 of the National Bank Open.

Play gets underway at 4pm BST and will be contested over the best of three sets on Grandstand.
