Johanna Konta will be looking for an eighth consecutive win when she takes on Coco Gauff at the National Bank Open in Montreal on Thursday.
Gauff has enjoyed an amazing season so far this year, especially on clay. She also looked decent on grass, where she reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon. The young American kicked off the National Bank Open tournament with a 2-0 victory over Sevastova and followed this back with another impressive performance against Potapova in the second round. She had a 5-0 lead in the first set when Potapova decided to retire due to an injury.
Meanwhile, Konta has won the Nottingham tournament two months ago and she continued the good form with back-to-back victories against Zhang and Svitolina here in Montreal. This is Konta’s best run of results over the past two years by far and another victory today against Gauff will make her one of the favourites to lift the Montreal trophy.
