Karen Khachanov and Stefanos Tsitsipas will square off in the Second Round of the 2021 National Bank Open on Thursday.
Khachanov has won seven of his last eight matches on hard courts, which includes a straight-set victory over Aslan Karatsev in the previous round of the National Bank Open. It wasn’t an easy match for Karen, as he needed a tie-break in the opening set and came back from two games down to win the second set. Khachanov has reached the semifinal in Toronto 2018 and Montreal 2019 and he can repeat this performance if he manages to win today against Tsitsipas.
After a couple of poor performances on clay and grass surfaces over the past month, Tsitsipas is still looking to find his form on hard courts. He suffered an early exit at the Tokyo Olympics in the third round following a 2-1 loss against Humbert. However, he got his revenge over the Frenchman yesterday following a 2-1 victory. Regardless the recent form, Tsitsipas has reached at least the quarterfinal in 11 of the 14 tournaments that he has entered so far this year.
