Three-time champion Andy Murray and Jannik Sinner collide in the Third Round of the 2023 National Bank Open in Toronto on Thursday.

Murray, who lifted the trophy in 2009, 2010 and 2015, is one of the most successful players in the history of the ATP Masters 1000 event.

Only Ivan Lendl (6), Rafael Nadal (5) and Novak Djokovic (4) have won the title on more occasions than the Scottish star.

A three-time Challenger Tour winner and Doha finalist this season, Murray opened up with a commanding straight-sets victory over Lorenzo Sonego, before coming through a contrastingly gruelling Second Round tie.

Murray dug deep in typical fashion to see off Max Purcell in a deciding set on Wednesday following a two-hour, 48-minute battle.

The 36-year-old will certainly be growing in confidence ahead of the US Open – where he landed his first Grand Slam title 11 years ago.

Sinner, meanwhile, is vying for an eighth ATP singles title, with his most recent having come at the Open Sud de France in February.

The number seven seed was runner-up in April’s Miami Open and also reached the Semi-Finals at Wimbledon – his best run in a major to date.

Sinner safely saw off fellow countryman Matteo Berrettini in straight sets to begin his campaign here and now meets Murray for the third time, with the pair having shared one win apiece so far.

The match gets under way from around 1.30am BST (6.30pm local time) and will be contested over the best of three sets.

Either Gael Monfils or Aleksandar Vukic will await the winner in the Quarter-Finals on Friday.
