Stefanos Tsitsipas v Gael Monfils live stream | National Bank Open 2023 Preview

Stefanos Tsitsipas looks to record his fifth successive victory when he faces Gael Monfils in round two of the National Bank Open on Wednesday.

The world number four is fresh from landing his first title of the season in Los Cabos, and will be eager to kick on ahead of the US Open later this month.

A runner-up in Melbourne and Barcelona this season, the Greek made it third lucky in an ATP final – dropping just a single set on the way to lifting the trophy in Mexico.

It was a timely return to form for Tsitsipas, who arrived at the ATP 250 off the back of successive last-16 exits at Stuttgart, Halle, Mallorca and Wimbledon.

And he has fond memories of Toronto. Runner-up to Rafael Nadal on debut in 2018, he also reached the semi-finals two years ago before succumbing to Reilly Opelka.

The same can be said for Monfils, who he leads 2-1 in the head-to-head record, though this will be their first encounter in four years.

The French veteran is a two-time semi-finalist – losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in 2016, while he was forced to withdraw injured on the eve of his last-four clash with subsequent winner Nadal three years later.

Also a two-time quarter-finalist in this event, Monfils recently climbed back into the world’s top 300 after reaching the last 16 at the Citi Open.

There, the world number 276 defeated sixth seed Alexander Bublik for only his third tour-level victory of the season, but succumbed to eventual runner-up Tallon Griekspoor.

The winner of this match will play either Sebastian Korda or Aleksandar Vukic in the last 16 of the National Bank Open.

Play gets underway at around 7.30pm BST and will be contested over the best of three sets on Center Court.
