The seedings make Bublik the favourite, but Thiem is the one boasting previous US Open form.
The Austrian claimed his maiden slam here in 2020, recovering from two sets down to battle past Alexander Zverev in a thrilling final.
Although he was beaten in the first round 12 months ago, Bublik has never previously progressed beyond round three here.

Bublik enjoyed a strong start to the season – reaching the Marseille semi-finals – but then lost his opening match in a whopping 10 tournaments.
However, his fortunes changed in Halle, when he overcame the likes of Borna Coric, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev to claim only his second ATP title.

Thiem is still on the comeback trail and seeking a return to those glory days of not too long ago.
Nevertheless, he has momentum after reaching the final at his home event in Kitzbuhel – losing out to Sebastian Baez – while he also reached the last eight in Estoril and Munich.
