Daniil Medvedev and Pablo Andujar-Alba will square off in the third round of the 2021 US Open on Friday.
Andujar-Alba has had a poor 2021 season so far, with his most notable performance being a semi-final run in Geneva. The Spaniard had a tough match against Mikhail Kukushkin in the opening round of the 2021 US Open, as he fought from two sets down to win a five-set thriller.
He followed that up with a comfortable straight-set victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round. The last and only time Pablo made it to the third round at the US Open was in 2019.
Medvedev has won 13 of her last 15 matches on hard courts. During this run, Daniil has won the National Bank Open in Toronto and reached the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics and semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters.
The Russian managed two comfortable wins here at the US Open so far, having beaten the likes of Gasquet and Koepfer in straight sets.
