Teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz aims to continue his remarkable debut run at the 2021 US Open when he faces Felix Auger Aliassime in the Quarter-Finals.
Alcaraz, 18, has grabbed worldwide headlines with his landmark run at Flushing Meadows over the last week, becoming the youngest US Open men’s singles quarter-finalist since 1963.
The Spaniard is already being touted as ‘the next Rafa Nadal’ and is looking to make history once again by knocking out the number 12 seed.
Alcaraz began his run by defeating number 26 seed Cameron Norrie in straight sets before seeing off fellow debutant Arthur Rinderknech and coming through successive five-set thrillers against third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk.
The youngster has won 13 of his last 16 matches on clay and hard courts. During this run, he managed to lift the trophy in Umag and made Semi-Final appearances in Marbella and Winston-Salem.
Auger Aliassime, meanwhile, is appearing in his second successive Grand Slam Quarter-Final, having lost out to Matteo Berrettini at Wimbledon.
The 21-year-old is bidding to reach the Semi-Finals of a major for the first time and has defeated the likes of Roberto Bautista Agut and Frances Tiafoe in New York so far.
This will be the first competitive meeting between the two emerging talents and features the combined youngest age in a major Quarter-Final, Semi-Final or final since 20-year-old Rafa Nadal took on 19-year-old Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros in 2006.
Alcaraz looks at ease with the big occasion and we expect him to win at least two sets (5/6 with Bet365) in what promises to be a close-run contest.
