Ninth seed Garbine Muguruza will take on Victoria Azarenka in the third round of the 2021 US Open on Friday.
Azarenka’s recent form on hard courts has been pretty good with six victories out of her last eight matches. The 32-year-old player is yet to win a title this year but did well to reach the semifinals in Doha and Berlin.
Azarenka managed to get a quarterfinal run in Montreal recently and started this edition of the US Open in a strong manner. She grabbed two straight-set victories over Martincova and Paolini while losing just 13 games in the process.
On the other hand, Muguruza has endured mixed results of late. She reached the quarter-finals at the Olympics towards the end of July, but then suffered early exits in Montreal and Cincinnati.
However, the Spaniard had an excellent start to the 2021 season, reaching the finals of Yarra Valley Classic and Doha. In addition, she won her eighth career title in Dubai back in March.
