A winner in Rio de Janeiro and two-time ATP runner-up this season, Norrie has struggled for consistency as the campaign has gone on and arrived in New York off the back of three straight first-round defeats.
Nevertheless, he has fond memories of Flushing Meadows, where last year he advanced beyond round three at a slam for only the second time.
A three-time Challenger Tour winner, US Open debutant Arnaldi has also beaten Casper Ruud at the Madrid Masters and reached the semi-finals in Umag this season.

Cameron Norrie road to the US Open
Having reached the fourth round 12 months ago, Norrie has looked solid in his quest to better that this time around.
The British number one has reeled off six sets without reply, and will hope his quest continues in a similarly smooth manner.
