Francisco Cerundolo takes on Andy Murray in the opening round of the 2022 US Open at Flushing Meadows on Monday.

Cerundolo has lost his most recent two matches on hard courts, but he looked pretty solid on clay surfaces prior to these. The Argentine won the title in Bastad and then reached the Semi-Finals in Hamburg.

Cerundolo has come a long way over the last eight months, but his performances on hard courts haven’t been great. His best results on hard this year were in Miami where he managed to reach the Semi-Finals before losing in straight sets to Casper Ruud.

Last year at the US Open, Cerundolo lost in the final qualifying round as an outside top 100 player.

Meanwhile, Murray’s recent form has been a complete mixed bag with four wins and six defeats in his last ten matches on grass and hard courts.

The Brit was recently eliminated in the opening rounds in Washington and Montreal, and he only reached the 2nd round in Cincinnati.

Andy was on a 14-match winning streak in the first-round matches at the US Open prior to his loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas last year. Murray has won the US Open twice in his career back in 2008 and 2012.
