Coco Gauff road to the US Open second round

Gauff looked in danger of suffering successive first-round exits at grand slams when she lost the opening set against Laura Siegemund, but recovered to deny the German 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

A quarter-finalist at her home slam 12 months ago, she will be determined to embark on a similarly strong run this time around.

Andreeva was also a little slow out of the blocks on her US Open bow as Olivia Gadecki dominated the opening set of their first-round clash.

But the 16-year-old responded well to prevail 6-3, 6-4 as she looks to continue her record of having reached the third round at all three slams this season.
