World number one Novak Djokovic will face familiar foe Matteo Berrettini in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 US Open.
Djokovic is on a quest to win a record-breaking 21st Major title and to complete the Calendar Year Grand Slam. Nole hasn’t reached the Semi-Finals at Flushing Meadows since 2018, but he is on a 25-match winning streak at the Majors.
Djokovic’s run at the 2021 US Open hasn’t been perfect, as he has dropped at least one set in three of his four matches. This happened in his most recent match too, when he dropped his serve twice in the first set against Brooksby.
Meanwhile, Berrettini opened up his 2021 US Open campaign with a straight-set victory over Chardy, but that was his only win to nil.
Since then, the Italian has dropped sets in each of the previous three rounds against mediocre opponents in the shape of Moutet, Ivashka and Otte.
Berrettini’s highlights of the season include a title run at Queen’s Club and a Grand Slam final appearance at Wimbledon, where he lost to Djokovic. This will be Matteo’s second career Quarter-Final appearance at the US Open.
