Four-time champion Rafael Nadal will face Fabio Fognini in the Second Round of the 2022 US Open on Thursday.
Nadal has had an amazing season so far, winning the Australian Open and the French Open. The Spaniard also won the Melbourne Summer Set and the Mexican Open without losing a set in either tournament.
Nadal has also had a Semi-Final run at Wimbledon where he was forced to withdraw due to injury. He returned to action in Cincinnati but lost in the opening round against the eventual champion Borna Coric.
Fognini, on the other hand, has had a mediocre year so far, with his best results being two Semi-Final finishes at the Rio Open and Serbia Open.
His recent record on hard courts reads six victories and four defeats as he recently competed in Monterrey, Cincinnati, and Winston-Salem.
The Italian began his US Open campaign with an impressive five-set victory over Aslan Karatsev, in a match where he found himself two sets down.
