Camila Giorgi will take on Simona Halep in the opening round of the US Open 2021 on Monday.
Giorgi has enjoyed a great run of form lately on hard courts. The Italian has recently won the National Bank Open in Montreal, following a dominant victory over Karolina Pliskova in the final. However, her Cincinnati adventure ended in the opening round after a humiliating defeat (2-6,2-6) against Jessica Pegula. Giorgi has lost five times out of nine in the opening rounds of the US Open, so it will be interesting to see if she can improve this negative record.
Meanwhile, Halep has struggled with injuries over the past few months and she is now 13th in the WTA Rankings. She has missed the Roland Garros and also the entire grass-court season due to a left calf tear. She was forced to withdraw from the 2nd round of Cincinnati recently due to a right adductor issue. Halep has lost four of her last five matches on clay and hard courts.
